Ah, those guys in Steel Panther, they just won’t leave us alone, will they? The masters of IQ exempt glammy cock rock are back to bring us a forth portion of well-played but incredibly brain-dead party songs about sex, drugs and rock’n’roll. Yes, it is their fourth effort under the Steel Panther banner. Back when the guys – singer Michael Starr (Ralph Saenz), guitarist Sachtel (Russ Parrish), bassist Lexxi Foxx (Travis Haley) and drummer Stix Zadina (Darren Leader) – released their first – and best – record Feel The Steel in 2009, I wondered how long this tounge-in-cheek piss-take – in a loving way – on 80’s hard rock and metal would last. I mean, how many songs can you write about those topics without it getting old? Also, the band’s steals shamelessly old 80’s hits from bands such as Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Whitesnake and Poison and rewrites them in a way that you can easily hear which song is stolen but at the same time, they made it their own. That’s art, folks. But you can only do it so many times before it’s not that funny anymore. The follow-up Balls Out! (2011) has been spat upon – wrongly, in my opinion – by many fans. Sure, it wasn’t as good as the debut but it sure had lots of moments and I think they succeeded with the hard task of a follow-up. Their last album, 2014’s All You Can Eat was even better and it looked like Steel Panther could actually be in it for the long run. With album number four, it’s time to show us again that their stand-up comedy rock still has a place in the world of rock and roll.
